History
The company was established in November 1918 as America Japan Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. The head office of the company was located in Osaka . In 1919, the Kitakyushu plant was commissioned. In 1931, the company was renamed Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. In August 1935, a plant in Yokkaichi was commissioned. In 1970, the company takes over Nippon Safety Glass Co., Ltd. In April 1999, the company merged with Nippon Glass Fiber Co., Ltd. and Micro Optics Co., Ltd.
In 2001, the company acquired a 20% stake in the British glass manufacturer Pilkington . In the same year, Nippon Muki Co., Ltd. became the merged entity. In July 2004, the company’s head office moved to Tokyo , a special area of Minato. In 2006, Nippon Sheet Glass acquired the remaining 80% Pilkington. After that, the company becomes one of the largest glass companies in the world.
