Characteristics of the substance
Butamirate is a colorless liquid with a specific odor, practically insoluble in water, highly soluble in ethanol , acetone , and ether [1] .
Butamirate citrate - white, hygroscopic crystals . The molecular weight is 499.55 [1] .
Pharmacological action
The structure has elements of similarity with aprofen , etocin . It has an antitussive, moderate bronchodilator, expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect, improves spirometry and blood oxygenation .
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption is high. TCmax after oral administration in a dose of 150 mg - 1.5 hours, Cmax - 6.4 μg / ml. T 1/2 - 6 hours. Does not cumulate. It is excreted by the kidneys in the form of metabolites .
Indications
Dry cough of any etiology: cough in the preoperative and postoperative period, during surgical interventions, bronchoscopy , whooping cough . Used for acute and chronic cough . Assign inside in the form of dragees , drops , tablets or syrup .
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy (I trimester), lactation . Children's age up to 2 months - drops, up to 3 years - syrup, up to 6 years - tablets, up to 12 years - 50 mg tablets.
Dosage
Before, during and after surgery, adults - intravenously at 10-20 mg or IM up to 50 mg / day. Before surgery, 20 mg is prescribed orally. Drops: for children 6-12 months (8 kg) - 10 drops 4 times a day; 1-3 years (10-15 kg) - 15 cap 4 times a day; older than 3 years - 25 cap 4 times a day. Syrup: for children 1-3 years old (10-15 kg) - 5 ml 3 times a day; 3-6 years (15-22 kg) - 10 ml 3 times a day; 6-9 years (22-30 kg) - 15 ml 3 times a day; over 9 years old (40 kg) - 15 ml 4 times a day. Adults - 30 ml 3 times a day. Tablets: for children 6-12 years old - 5 mg 2 times a day; children over 12 years old - 5 mg 3 times a day; adults - 20 mg 2-3 times a day. 50 mg tablets - for adults, before meals, without chewing, 1 tablet every 8-12 hours.
Dragees usually contain 0.005 g (5 mg) butyrate citrate, dragees of prolonged action - 20 mg; 10 ml drops contain 10 or 20 mg of the drug; 100 ml of syrup - 40 mg.
Side Effects
Exanthema , nausea , diarrhea , dizziness , allergic reactions .
Overdose
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting , drowsiness, diarrhea, dizziness, decreased blood pressure .
Treatment
Activated charcoal , saline laxatives, symptomatic therapy (as indicated).
Special instructions
Patients with diabetes can be prescribed a drug, because Sorbitol and saccharin were used as a sweetener in syrup and drops. 50 mg tablets contain lactose .
