Manx catfish ( lat.Machimus cowini ) - one of more than 7 thousand known species of catfish and one of 28 species of catfish of the British Isles .

Manx catfish was discovered and isolated in a separate species in the 1940s , originally considered an endemic species of the island . However, it was later discovered in the east of the island of Ireland . [1] There are also unconfirmed reports of sightings in the UK . The species is most commonly found in the northeast of the Isle of Man .
In 1979, the Isle of Man Post issued a 13 pence stamp with the image of the Manx. In 2001, another brand was issued with a par value of 58 pence.
The Latin name ( Machimus cowini or a synonym for Epitriptus cowini ) was given the name in honor of the discoverer - W. S. Cowin ( born WS Cowin ) .
