Protective film

Protective film - a thin polymer coating, usually coated on one or both sides with an adhesive (adhesive) that can adhere to the surface to be protected. A protective film is a packaging material intended for temporary protection of furniture, electronic, computer and household appliances, as well as building materials, glass surfaces, including window films , and cars from pollution, which can ruin the appearance of the product or goods during transportation , storage, installation and operation. A protective packaging film for food products is also emitted.

Types of protective films

The following types of protective films are distinguished by color:

  1. Transparent.
  2. Black and white.
  3. Color (any color according to the RAL palette ).
  4. Tinted / reflective (for glass).
  5. Silver plated (SLR).

Depending on the adhesive layer:

  1. No adhesive (food film).
  2. With single-sided adhesive layer (protective self-adhesive films)
  3. With a double-sided adhesive layer (double-sided tape ).

Protective films are also distinguished by thickness (from 0.04 to 0.15 mm), density, depending on the amount of adhesive applied, and tensile strength.

Scope of use of protective film

Protective film is used in the following fields of activity:

  1. In retail , food wrap is used to pack food and non-food products.
  2. In the automotive industry - tinted protective films for glass are used , as well as transparent films for the continuous protection of glass, the body and other external elements of the car.
  3. In the manufacture of furniture , a self-adhesive film is used to temporarily protect the furniture from damage and contamination during transportation and assembly. After this, the film is easily removed and leaves no traces of glue. On the glass facades of the furniture, shatterproof films are used that remain for the entire life of the product.
  4. In the production of building materials . In particular, to protect sandwich panels , window frames , window sills and plastic , doors , stainless steel , polymer coated metal , a self-adhesive film is used for temporary protection during transportation and installation, as well as to improve the strength, anti-corrosion and waterproofing properties of metal building structures and pipes .
  5. To protect the glass . A transparent, tinted and self-adhesive film with a silver coating is used. For temporary protection of glass during transportation and installation of windows , a transparent self-adhesive film is used . For light reflection, sound absorption of sound and heat insulation of windows (including automobile ones), a transparent and tinted self-adhesive film is used. For decorative purposes and in the manufacture of mirrors , a self-adhesive film with a silver coating is used.
  6. To protect household, electronic and computer equipment, self-adhesive film is also used both temporarily (during transportation and installation), and on an ongoing basis (to protect screens of TVs, monitors, phones and other mobile devices)

Protective Film Functions

The protective film performs the following series of functions:

  1. Pollution protection .
  2. Preservation of presentation of products.
  3. Protection against mechanical damage.
  4. Sound absorption is the ability of window films to absorb external sounds.
  5. Sound insulation - the ability of protective films to isolate all sounds in a room from the outside world.
  6. Heat saving - protective self-adhesive films have low thermal conductivity , which reduces heat loss by up to 40%.
  7. Information protection and light reflection - tinted window films , not only prevent video surveillance of the windows and prevent the penetration of sunlight, but also limit the reading of sound information from vibration .
  8. Sun protection and ultraviolet protection - a self-adhesive window film (both transparent and tinted ) has the ability to absorb up to 99% of UV rays, preventing the burnout of goods on the window , wallpaper and interior items .
  9. Fire resistance - protective films applied to windows can hold fire for up to 45 minutes, slowly melting and not emitting toxic gases . When the source of fire is removed, the film immediately goes out.
  10. Shatterproof. The car glass reinforced with a protective film is able to withstand even the blast wave , reducing the risk of splinter damage when the glass is damaged.
  11. Scotch tape is used for fastening and insulation in plumbing, painting, as well as in surgery.
  12. Reinforcing mirrors are used to reinforce mirrors in the manufacture of furniture, such as wardrobes.
