History
The Tver Museum was founded in 1866 to store samples of natural riches and works of industry in the Tver province, as well as objects related to the archeology of the region [1] .
In 1896, the museum moved into one of the outbuildings of the Tver Imperial Travel Palace [1] [2] .
During the Great Patriotic War and the occupation of the city in 1941, the museum was seriously damaged, and also lost a significant part of its collections [2] .
In 1977, the Kalinin State United Museum was established, the Kalinin Museum of Local Lore was the head organization; many museums of the city and region were transferred to it as branches [2] .
In 1988, the Kalininsky State United Museum moved to the building of the former real school (Sovetskaya Street, 5), which is a historical monument [2] [3] .
