Description
On the square are Vologda-1 railway station , bus station , post office.
History
Initially, the square was called Railway Station. It was later renamed O. Yu. Schmidt Square. In January 1973 , on the centenary of the birth of Ivan Vasilyevich Babushkin , it was renamed Babushkin Square [1] [2] .
On June 26, 1934, a rally was held on the square, at which thousands of residents met the crew of the Chelyuskin steamboat [1] .
In the early 1960s , reconstruction of the forecourt began. Opposite the railway station, five-story houses were built on the site of old buildings [1] .
In 1970, a new bus station was built [1] .
