Biography

He came from the noblemen of the St. Petersburg province , was born in 1790, the son of a real state adviser Andrei Andreyevich Stegelman.

He began his service in 1811 in the Kexholm Grenadier Regiment . In 1812 he participated in the Patriotic War and in the Battle of Borodino was shell-shocked in his right cheek; then he made campaigns in 1813 in Prussia and 1814 in France .

In 1821, the rank of colonel was transferred to the Life Guards Semyonovsky Regiment and was soon granted the adjutant wing ( G. A. Miloradovich is not listed in the “List of retinues”).

In the years 1828-1829. took part in the Russian-Turkish war and in 1829, for the distinction, promoted to major general .

In 1830 and 1831, while remaining in St. Petersburg , Stegelman commanded the second battalions of the 1st Guards Infantry Division, which did not participate in the Polish campaign . In the same 1831, Stegelman received the Jaeger Regiment in command of the Life Guards , and on May 3, 1833 he was appointed commander of the Life Guards of the Moscow Regiment , where he remained until 1839. On December 6, 1836, he was 25 years in the military ranks for the immaculate service awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree (No. 5352 according to the cavalier list of Grigorovich - Stepanov).

December 6, 1840 was promoted to lieutenant general . The last years of his service, Stegelman was the head of the 9th Infantry Division. On January 1, 1846, by Highest Order, he was dismissed, according to a petition, from service due to illness.

He died on January 16, 1858 in St. Petersburg , was buried in the Volkov Orthodox Cemetery .

Stegelmann's military service was awarded the following orders and insignia: Annas of the 4th degree and 2nd degree with diamond signs, St. Stanislav 1st degree, St. Vladimir 3rd degree, St. Annas of the 1st degree, insignia of immaculate service for the XV, XX, XXV and XXX years and a golden snuffbox with the monogram of His Majesty.

His brother, Evgraf , also served in the Russian imperial army and was a knight of the Order of St. George 4th degree.
