Creativity

Jim Lambi transforms the ephemerality of modern life into catchy sculptural installations. Working with objects tucked into his arm, he turns clothes, accessories, doors and mirrors into sculptural elements in large compositions. For Lambi, sensory pleasure is the priority, not intellectual response. Lambi's works are often created for a specific space, where they are formed by a series of intuitive and improvisational solutions. This allows the artist to work in accordance with the quality of materials, as well as the parameters of the existing architecture.

Since 1999, Jim Lambi has been using glossy adhesive tape in various colors for floor installations such as Touch Zobop ( 2003 ). Vinyl tape, this everyday material, is used to create continuous lines that transform neutral space into energetic and emotional. Lambi creates a rhythm that vibrates and pulsates, disorienting the viewer. The Zobop installation (1999) became Lambi's hallmark. It is different every time, as it varies depending on the shape of the room. Strips of bright tape are glued to the floor, first around the perimeter of the room and until the tape reaches the center. The work is based on the concept of filling the space, at the same time, leaving it empty.

In 2003, Lambi represented Scotland at the Venice Biennale .

In 2005, Jim Lambi entered the Turner Prize shortlist.

In 2008, Jim Lambi created Secret Affair , a public artwork for the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh . The installation consisted of seven giant colored stainless steel keyholes. The work was created specifically for the Edinburgh Arts Festival.
