In October 1941, Simonov, who in the summer of 1941 decided to write a series of correspondence from the most extreme sections of the Soviet-German front, went after staying in Crimea to the Northern Front .

From Murmansk on October 17, 1941, Simonov crossed to the Rybachy Peninsula , which was indeed the northernmost point of the front, and was there until the beginning of November 1941.

On the last day of his stay on the peninsula, Rybachy Major E.S. Ryklis , commander of the 104th Army Cannon Artillery Regiment , whose heavy batteries of 122mm and 152mm guns were located on the Sredny and Rybachy peninsulas, told him the story in July 1941 he was forced to send for adjustment of artillery fire to one of the heights on the peninsula of the Middle son of his old army friend - Lieutenant I. A. Loskutov.

On July 31, 1941, together with two radio operators, Lieutenant I.A. Loskutov climbed to a height and from there, within 6 days, adjusted the artillery fire on the radio. According to the data transmitted by Loskutov, the mortar battery, a large group of infantry, several machine-gun points were destroyed by fire. However, the enemy troops located the correctional group and, after not bringing the result of mortar and artillery shelling of the heights, were forced to attack the heights. Surrounded by altitude from all sides, German soldiers began to climb up.

As I. A. Loskutov recalled:

We had no choice but to cause a fire directly in height. We gave such a team, but the regiment commander considered this a mistake, and asked again, and only after our secondary team a flurry of our artillery fire hit the heights.

The advancing Germans were partially destroyed, and the rest fled. During the shelling, we tried to hide and remained alive, however, the state was terrible. The radio station was broken, and our further stay at a height without communication with the regiment was pointless, and I decided to return to the regiment. [four]

.

For the feat of I.A. Loskutov was awarded the medal "For Courage" .

Based on his impressions of the story told, K. M. Simonov wrote the poem “The Son of the Gunner”, the prototype of Lieutenant Petrov in which was I. A. Loskutov, the prototype of Major Deyev was E. S. Ryklis; moreover, the poem indicates the place of action corresponding to real events.

... here's the story
About these glorious things
On the Middle Peninsula
I was told ...

In reality, there were (excluding, of course, surnames) two differences from the poem. In the poem, Lenka went on an adjustment alone, in reality, with two radio operators (privates Georgy Makarov and Grigory Mekhonoshin) and a guide, who, being wounded, returned. Also, Lenka’s father, according to the poem, who actually fought in the southern sector of the front, did not die, but was seriously wounded, but survived and died only in 1965.

I.A. Loskutov fought the entire war in the 104th artillery regiment , ended the war in the Pacific Ocean , continued his service in the Pacific Fleet , ended his career as a colonel , as a senior personnel officer in the headquarters of the Pacific Fleet. During the war he was awarded four orders and a medal.

He died in 1994 and was buried in the Forest Cemetery of Vladivostok.
