Student I. G. Petrovsky ; He graduated from the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University ( 1941 ) and the Air Force Engineering Academy ( 1944 ). Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences ( 1951 ), Professor ( 1952 ). He was a member of the Presidium of the Scientific and Methodological Council for Mathematics at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, Chairman of the High Schools section of the Moscow Mathematical Society Honorary member of the Presidium of the Kharkov Mathematical Society, Honorary Professor of the Moscow Institute of Transportation Engineers .

A. D. Myshkis made a great contribution to the theory of ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations, including in connection with applied problems — in particular, in the study of the behavior of a fluid in zero gravity and in the problem of Zhukovsky about a moving train.

Biography

Born in the family of Dmitry Semenovich Ermakov and Khai Samuilovna Myshkis ( 1892 , Orhei - 1965 , Moscow), who lived in a civil marriage. [1] [2] [3] The elder brother of the mother is the economist Veniamin Samuilovich Myshkis . Until the autumn of 1932 he lived in Kharkov , then, due to the transfer of his father, the family moved to Moscow. In 1937 he graduated from the 25th exemplary (later on - 175) school, since 1935 has been participating in a mathematical circle at the Moscow State University, headed by I. M. Gelfand .

From 1937 to 1941 he studied at the Moscow State University, in 1941 (in evacuation) he graduated and entered the Air Force Engineering Academy, which he graduated in 1944 , becoming its teacher. In 1947, transferred to Riga . Later he worked at the Kharkov Aviation Institute , in 1954-56 at the Belarusian State University , and the last decades of his life was a professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics-1 (PM-1) of the Moscow State University of Communications ( MIIT ).

Family

  • His wife (in 1940–1960) was Ekaterina Dmitrievna Myshkis (nee Kutyrina, 1924, Leningrad - 2014, Beer-Sheva ) [4] , co-author of the “Music Away” textbooks (Rostov-on-Don: Rostov University Press, 1972 ) and "Outstanding musicians of our time" (ibid, 1972), German philologist, associate professor of the foreign languages department of the Kharkov Institute of Arts , then Rostov State University.
    • Son - Petr Anatolyevich Myshkis (born 1944), mathematician, teacher, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences (1977).

Scientific contribution

A. D. Myshkis introduced the concept of a generalized solution for an ordinary differential equation with a many-valued discontinuous right-hand side, an example was constructed with a non-unique solution of the Cauchy problem given on non-characteristic (this cycle of works was awarded the IMO Prize). He also created the theory of equations with a retarded argument, laid the foundation for the theory of impulsive differential equations.

In 1963 , together with his students, he studied the behavior of fluid in zero gravity; in 1976 the corresponding monograph “Hydromechanics of Zero Gravity” was published.

A. D. Myshkis made a great contribution to the study of functional differential equations.

Author or coauthor of 17 books, supervisor of 36 candidate and 7 doctoral dissertations.

Memory

In honor of Anatoly Dmitrievich Myshkis, one of the lecture halls (No. 1319) of Moscow State University of Communications was named.
