Expanded clay gravel

Expanded clay gravel is a round-shaped particle with a molten surface and pores inside.

Expanded clay gravel or expanded clay is divided into various fractions depending on the grain size. GOST 9757-90 provides for the following fractions of expanded clay gravel by grain size: 5-10, 10-20 and 20-40 mm. Grains of less than 5 mm are classified as expanded clay sand.

By bulk density, expanded clay gravel is subdivided into 10 grades: from 150 to 800 (special orders are allowed to produce grades M900 and M1000), and grades of gravel with a bulk density of 200 to 250 kg / m3 are classified as grade 250, and grades 300 are from 250 to 300 kg / m3, etc.

For each brand in bulk density, the standard establishes the requirements for the strength of expanded clay gravel when pressed in a cylinder and the corresponding strength brands.

Water absorption of expanded clay gravel in 1 hour 8-30% depending on the density, frost resistance should be at least 15 cycles [1] .

Application

Expanded clay gravel is used as a porous aggregate for lightweight concrete , and also as a heat-insulating material. Expanded clay gravel is also widely used for the manufacture of expanded clay concrete blocks, from which the external walls and internal partitions of buildings are subsequently built.
