Author of theoretical studies in openings ( Spanish and Scottish parts ) and endgame. He composed a series of sketches of importance for the theory of endgame. Especially valuable are his analyzes in the area of rook endings [1] [2] . Grandmaster A. B. Mikhalchishin puts them on a par with analyzes by N. D. Grigoriev and A. Sharon . Kopaev is the author of the final edition of the famous analyzes of A. A. Troitsky (endgame “two knights versus pawns”).
Since 1967, he stopped working with chess publications. According to testimony of A. B. Mikhalchishin, Kopaev’s archive was kept by the trainer of the Gurvich Chernivtsi chess school. After the death of Gurvich, the archive disappeared.
