History
Red Cross Community
The predecessor community was created in 1877 by the Tsarskoye Selo ladies' committee. She lasted until the end of the Russian-Turkish war .
In 1899 the Tsarskoye Selo Committee of the Red Cross was established. The initiator of its creation was General PF Rerberg , the chairman was the maid of honor E. F. Dzhunkovskaya, sister of V. F. Dzhunkovsky .
On February 8 (21), 1908, the Committee was transformed into the “Tsarskoye Selo Sisters of Mercy Community of the Russian Red Cross Society, under the august patronage of the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna”.
Community Buildings
When the Committee was established, he opened an ambulance station on Stesselskaya Street , and with the start of the Russian-Japanese War an infirmary with 10 beds.
In 1908, a two-storey wooden building on a stone foundation was erected for the Community according to the project of architect S. A. Danini on the plot along Boulevard Street (modern address: Oktyabrsky Boulevard, 14). It had half-timbered walls cut by rectangular windows.
In the new building at the end of 1908, there was a surgical unit for 8 beds with a free outpatient clinic.
On June 8 (21), 1912, the rector of the Ekaterininsky Cathedral, Archpriest Afanasy Belyaev, in the presence of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna , laid the foundation for a new stone building for the Community. Construction of the building according to the project of S. A. Danini lasted until 1913 .
It housed a dispensary, a hostel for sisters and a church.
In August 1914, an officer’s hospital was opened in the Community building, on the basis of which nursing courses operated. The courses were trained Empress with children.
Church
The consecration of the temple in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" was held on October 1 (13), 1914 [1] . It was made by Archpriest Athanasius Belyaev in co-serving with the local clergy and in the presence of Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.
March 7, 1922 the church was robbed. Unknown criminals have taken away silver utensils.
The church was closed by order of the Petrograd Executive Committee on November 11, 1923 .
Since 1923, the Children's Friendship Tuberculosis Sanatorium has been working in the community building. In particular, the laboratory, the X-ray room and other rooms were located in the stone building.
An assembly hall was arranged in the temple itself. During the repair of the sanatorium in 1967, a bedroom for the sick was organized in the temple.
In the 1990s, the company was located in the building of the company "Prestige", in the church there was an exhibition hall for the sale of doors.
Services resumed on November 6, 2006 .
At the moment, the restoration of the temple, frescoes are open.
Architecture, decoration and structure of the church
The stone building in which the temple is located, was built in the forms of medieval Novgorod architecture. Multi-sloping roofs, facades decorated with arched openings.
The church is located in the southern part of the building. Above the entrance is a panel-icon with a canopy of characteristic curvilinear outlines. Above the southern wall of the temple there is a belfry with completion in the form of three domes.
The painting of the church was made by G. P. Pashkov according to the designs of V. M. Vasnetsov . S. Vashkov participated in the decoration of the iconostasis.
