Alexander III of Scotland led a rather hostile policy towards the Isle of Man , but in 1263 , after his indecisive victory at the Battle of Largs , the attacks stopped. [2] During the battle, the Norwegian fird was forced to leave the Orkney Islands , and Scottish troops remained in the disputed territories. After the death of the Norwegian king Haakon IV, power was taken by the more peaceful Magnus VI . As a result of negotiations with Scotland , the Perth Treaty was concluded, according to which Norway gave the islands, including Maine, in addition to 4 thousand marks of compensation. [3] The island was returned only in 1275 , at the decisive battle of Ronaldsway .
