Geography
Ogove is one of the largest rivers in West Africa. The length is about 1200 kilometers, the pool covers an area of 223 856 km² in the territory of Gabon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon ; 173,000 km² of them accounted for Gabon (73%).
The sources of the river are in Kengui , in the northeast of the Batek plateau in the Republic of Congo. Near Bumango, Ogove crosses the Congolese-Gabon border and flows through the Gabon provinces of Upper Ogov, Ogov -Lolo , Ogov-Ivindo , Middle Ogov and Ogov-Maritim , named after the river. In the Mulongo area, there are Pubara waterfalls on it. Because of the rapids, it is not navigable, only the delta from the city of Njole and until it flows into the Gulf of Guinea , south of the city of Port Gentil , is used for shipping.
The first of the Europeans, the Ogove River was explored in the 70s of the XIX century by the French traveler Pierre Savornian de Brazza (1852-1905).
