Gameplay
The player controls the main character of manga and anime, Hoske Syaraku is a three-eyed boy who can attack with the help of a third eye. The beginning of the game begins with the evil ancient prince Godal destroying the city of Tokyo with a shot from the tank "Gomorra" and then abducting Vato Chiyoko - one of the main characters in the anime, a high school girl who helps Hosca in his adventures.
After the destruction of opponents, there are coins that increase in size when firing at them, but disappear when the size is exceeded. Collected coins can be used in stores found on levels. They are available for purchase additional weapons, first aid kit and extra life.
The main weapon of opponents against the protagonist is the clots of patches that your enemies shoot. This is the weak point of the hero, to seal his third eye, and at the same time make him completely harmless. This method was used in the anime, so that Hoske would become an ordinary child who would not remember anything and would not know that he has psychokinetic power.
There are five levels in the game.
In the Japanese version of the game, the levels were titled simply as “Stage” (Stage), however, in the outdated unofficial Roman Russian language translation they were given the names.
Levels
Level 1: - The adventure begins in the city, a ride on the truck, the player goes down the drain. At the level there will be enemies in the form of Pogo monkeys, three-eyed dogs, huge spiders. In the sewer waiting for shooting statues totems, dogs and huge snails. The boss of this level is a three-eyed Goblin (who once lost his third eye and hides this scar on his forehead under sunglasses), invulnerable to attacks only if he gets a patch of patches (described above), it will immobilize him for a few seconds and then he will become vulnerable. The main danger, both for the boss and the hero, is the statue, which at regular intervals shoots three patches. The boss himself can throw darts, choosing basically the same moment to attack as the statue.
Level 2: - The player comes into the forest, sneaks through the abyss and comes into the cave. Enemies of the level are mainly ancient dudes with swords, bats and some strange bouncing creatures. Bats, huge heads, skeletons of three-eyed and jumping creatures await in the cave. The level boss is the root of the carnivorous Bolbokk plant, similar to the heart, which is protected from attacks by a tentacle that shoots with one homing patch or three regular ones. The weak spot is the eye. This boss can be easily defeated if you jump over his back and quickly shoot at a weak point (but it’s better not to risk and shoot him from a distance, dodging bunches of patches it releases).
Level 3: - Desert terrain, similar to Egypt, then the player gets inside the Pyramid. Here, for the first time, enemies appear in the form of pink heads, some of which are indestructible, and some withstand prolonged attacks. Of the enemies added more huge crabs. Most of this stage consists of descents and ascents on platforms. The level boss is a big ancient teleport of the three-eyed. A weak spot is the eyes that it opens to throw cobblestones at you. To easily destroy this boss, you need to try to shoot most of the cobblestones before they fly into the hero, and then attack his eyes before he closes them again.
Level 4: - Continuing the path through the water. A boat is parked here, sailing on which you need to reach an abandoned ship, while avoiding fish jumping out of the water and interfering with the Pogo monkeys running along iron structures sticking out of the water in the middle of the path. After arriving, the path continues inside the ship in the hold, where the danger is represented by three-eyed skeletons and enemies from previous levels, as well as falling pipe parts. The last part of the level passes on the deck of the ship. Level boss - Ghost, throwing ectoplasm clots along high and low trajectories, after an attack turns into a swarm of fireflies and flies to another place, materializing again. The level is remarkable in that it has the effect of changing the time of day (from evening to late evening and night), and rain on the deck with the boss as a weather phenomenon.
Level 5: - The last stage is the longest. It is interesting because there is nonlinearity in it - you can choose a more dangerous, but valuable path for the passage, or shorten in a straight line. It starts from the road to the secret base located on Easter Island. After that, 3 portals follow, after passing each one at the end you will have to fight with identical bosses - generators, differing in color and speed of attacks and recovery. To defeat them, you need to shoot at the eye located on the body, and at the same time attack the force field, which is created by two spike robots. After them, the player waiting for the last 2 boss. The first is the Gomorrah tank, which at regular intervals releases a "tentacle" consisting of a snow blizzard from its mouth and moves back and forth to crush the hero. His vulnerable spot is the mouth-trunk, but when he is attacked, Gomorrah also shoots ice clots growing into pillars that fall on the same place where the hero stands. To defeat this boss, it is better to use the "Aura" and stand under his muzzle when he releases the tentacle, moving with him. After the destruction of the tank, the final boss appears - the ancient evil prince Godal, who also has the power of the third eye (in the anime, he emerges from the past as a spirit and abducts the body of Vato Chiyoko by infiltrating it), but unlike the hero, does not use it, but fights using a sword, releasing energy waves. After a certain amount of attacks, his tactics change, and he begins to charge himself with lightning through his sword, attacking with jumps and discharges in all directions. The tactics of the battle with him is simple: when he tries to attack in a jump, you just need to run under him, not trying to jump over him (although some players manage to jump without losing health!) And jump over the discharges he started in time. After defeating him, the game ends and Vato is saved.
Weapons and Objects
From the very beginning, the player with him will have the usual bullets and a spear-condor, which is caused by clamping the attack button. All other weapons and items the player receives in stores that are found along the way in the game. To do this, you need money that falls out of dead enemies. Shooting coins, you can increase them, increasing their value, but if you shoot too long, the coin will disappear (coins also disappear if you run away from them).
Red Condor - flies a short distance and flies back. Available from the start. Called if you hold down the attack button for a few seconds. Condor can be used to defeat ordinary enemies, or as an additional platform, because on it you can become and jump like on a trampoline. This is one of the magical items that Hoske used in the anime.
Psychowave - Slow weapons. Its peculiarity is that by pressing the Up or Down buttons on the joystick, you can control the direction of the attack. It is worth 1000 coins in the store.
Megagipnoz - oval bullets, fly on a wavy trajectory at high speed, and have the greatest force of defeat, but often miss. It is worth 1000 coins in the store.
Hyperaura - a three-lane weapon with an increased radius of destruction. Slow, but the most effective weapon in the whole game. It is worth 1000 coins in the store.
Super Condor - The more powerful Red Condor, it lasts longer in the air and hurts its enemies more. It differs from the usual form of a brighter and sparkling color and the fact that it hurts enemies even when flying backwards. Bought in the store for 1000 coins.
Harpy - does not allow to fall into the abyss, pulls out the player and carries it to the platform. In Easy mode, it works endlessly, in Normal mode it acts once, after which you can buy it again in the store. It costs 200 coins.
First Aid Kit - restores health. Cost - 100 coins.
The head of Hoske Syaraku is an extra life. The most expensive item in the store, worth 5000 coins. Although the counter is unambiguous, there can be ten lives.
Game Secrets
The game has several secret places that can be found through careful research. Most of these secrets are the discovery of Moa - ancient birds hidden in empty parts of levels. To find them, you need to "shoot" an empty space. If there is a moa, then the bullets will disappear, as if firing on a hard surface. After the discovery, Moa flies away, destroying all the enemies on the screen and pouring out coins of various value. Very often, these birds hide near the shops. In addition to Moa, there is also a “fake wall” on the second level, which leads to a hidden additional store, and a “sudden reward” on the third stage - a thousandth coin is hidden in one of the pink heads. The game also supports a system of cheats, allowing you to enter the debugging menu and select the level. If you scroll through the graphics tiles, you can see that some of them were never used for the game.
Notes
- The character of Siaraku Hoskee appeared in another game - “Astro Boy: Omega Factor” on the GBA . In this game, he is presented as the main antagonist, possessing psychokinetic abilities, levitation , and the call of beings. In addition, Vato Chiyoko appears in the same game, but already as an assistant to Dr. O'Sey. For the first time, Prince Syaraku appears in the anime "Kaitei Choutokkyuu Marine Express" as a conqueror. All these characters were created by the same person - Osamu Tezuka .
