He studied music from his father, cellist Giovanni Panizza, then at the Milan Conservatory under Giuseppe Frugatt (piano), Amintore Galli (harmony), Michele Saladino (counterpoint) and Vincenzo Ferroni (composition). In 1898, Panitsa graduated from the Conservatory with the first prize in composition, but he connected his further musical career with conducting, becoming the first Argentine conductor to receive worldwide recognition. In 1907–1914 Panitstsa worked at the Covent Garden , in 1916–1917 and 1921–1932 - at La Scala (together with Arturo Toscanini ), finally, at 1934–1942 - at the Metropolitan Opera . In addition, from 1921 to 1955, Panitz was the permanent conductor of the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires, where his performances of the Italian classical operatic repertoire, as well as the operas of Wagner and R. Strauss, enjoyed particular success.

As a composer, Panitzza is known as one of the first Argentines who worked in the genre of opera and symphonic music. Unlike many of his contemporaries - representatives of national composer schools, Panitsa refused to widely use the folk musical material, preferring the aesthetic concept of verism . One of his most famous works, the opera Aurora, written in 1907, was criticized for using the Italian text (by Luigi Illica , librettist Giacomo Puccini ) and the absence of Argentine content. Nevertheless, the opera was a success and firmly entered the repertoire of the Colon Theater, where it was performed in Spanish.
