Geography

The city is located on the right bank of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir. The distance to the nearest railway station ( Minusinsk ) is 97 km. Krasnoturansk, like the entire Krasnoyarsk Territory, uses Krasnoyarsk time , which differs from Moscow time by 4 hours (MSK + 4).

History

The settlement of the area with Russians began in the first quarter of the 18th century. In August 1707, the Abakan prison was built, which laid the foundation for the old village of Abakansky , renamed Krasnoturansk, now located in the flood zone of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir . The base of the prison led to the bringing into the citizenship of Russia the uluses of the Tuba zemlya . In the following decades, a stream of immigrants from the old-time places of Siberia stretched into these lands, and in the 19th - early 20th centuries. - from European provinces: Vologda, Nizhny Novgorod, Kiev, Mogilev, Poltava, Samara, Kherson, Chernihiv, Voronezh, etc.

Until the end of the 18th century, Siberia underwent a series of administrative-territorial changes. For example, in 1782, this territory became part of the Tomsk district of the Tomsk region, then in 1797 for several years the Tomsk and Tobolsk regions were merged into the Tobolsk province - including the Abakan prison of the Kuznetsk district . In 1822, the territory was transferred from Tomsk to the Yenisei province .

According to the administrative division of Siberia, in 1827 the Abakan volost was formed, which became part of the newly created Minusinsk district (district) [4] .

In 1917, in the volost there were 90 villages with 18 thousand inhabitants, 21 schools, 5 large churches. In 1924, the Abakan district was formed, consisting of 55 settlements, including 37 village Soviets. The population of the district was 34946 people, 6642 households. The inhabitants of the district were exclusively engaged in agriculture and cattle breeding. In 1933, the district was renamed Krasnoturansky.

In 1961, collective farms were reorganized into state farms, out of 51 collective farms 7 state farms were formed. On December 27, 1962, the executive committee of the regional council decided to establish 4 industrial and 35 rural areas instead of the existing 60 regions in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. By this decision, the Kuraginsky rural district was formed in the former territories of the Kuraginsky and Krasnoturansky districts with a district center in the village of Kuragino. But after 2 years, December 31, 1964, the rural and industrial areas were abolished and the Krasnoturan district again became independent.

Since 1962, many villages of the district, including the district center, were moved to new places in connection with the construction of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric station .
