Setterfield grew up in the village of Seal ( born Theale , Berkshire ). After graduating from Theale Green School, she entered the University of Bristol , where she studied French literature. Then, for several years, Setterfield taught French literature of the 19th and 20th centuries at various universities in England and France [2] . Her scientific works were devoted to the study of the life and work of Nobel laureate Andre Gide .
In the late 1990s, Diana Setterfield quit teaching due to disagreement with university policies, despite the fact that she liked working with students. Later, she opened her company to teach French to people about to visit France. It is known that Diana has 2 younger sisters. Setterfield is married to an accountant Peter Wittall, they have 4 cats living in their house in Harrowgate ( Eng. Harrogate , North Yorkshire ).
Critics compared Setterfield's style with the work of the sisters Bronte and Daphne Dumorier [3] .
