Biography

The daughter of lawyer Leon Yakovlevich Tauber , associate professor of Kharkov University . Grandfather - lawyer Tauber Yakov Samuilovich . She began to write poetry at the age of seven. At 17, she emigrated to Belgrade with her family. There she entered the French department of the Faculty of Philosophy, graduating in 1928. After graduation, Tauber taught for four years in a Serbian school, where she taught French , German and Russian literature. She also actively participated in the literary circle Literary Environment (Belgrade). Her poems began to be published only after 1927; they were published in the magazines Steps (Belgrade), Will of Russia (Prague), Journal of the Commonwealth (Vyborg), Modern Notes (Paris), collections of the Architect (Belgrade), Crossroads and Poetry Union of Young Poets and Writers ”(Paris). Together with I. N. Golenishchev-Kutuzov and A. P. Durakov, she participated as a translator in “The Anthology of the New Yugoslav Lyric” (Belgrade, 1933).

Her talent was noticed by many, G. Adamovich spoke positively about her work.

The first collection of poems by Tauber was published only in 1935 in Berlin.

In the Belgrade period, Tauber began to write short stories; they appeared in print for thirty years in such publications as The Russian Almanac, The New Magazine, Bridges, etc.

In 1936 she married Konstantin Stavrov and moved to the Riviera . After the war, 16 years worked as a teacher of the Russian language in Cannes . At this time, I. Bunin , B. Zaitsev , D. Klenovsky entered into the circle of her communication.

Tauber led an active literary life, wrote critical articles mainly about emigrants: V. Bulich , A. Prismanova , L. Alekseeva , O. Mozhaiskaya, T. Velichkovskaya and others.

Having married, Tauber sometimes signed her works with a double surname: Tauber-Stavrova.

At the age of 84, Tauber died on November 6, 1987 in Mougins.

Tauber's verses speak of a constant, thorough search for the right word. She recognizes the grace, heaviness and responsibility of a poetic gift. The starting point for her is always emotional experiences and the struggle with herself to accept her fate. [one]
