Title

The name literally translates as “East Gate Area”: “tone” (cor. 동) - “east”, “demun” (cor. 대문) - “gate”, “gu” (or “ku”; cor. 구) - "area".

Location on a city map

In the north, Dongdaemungu borders on Sonbuku , in the east - on Chunnangu , in the southeast - on Gwangjing , in the south - on Sondongu , in the south-west the "neighbor" is Chungu , and in the west - Chongnogu .

History

Exit from Cheongyanni Metro Station

The area was founded in 1943 , but was part of the larger Sonbukku district. In 1949, the district withdrew from Sonbukku, but in subsequent years it significantly changed its composition and, consequently, the occupied area — some small administrative districts ( tone ; cor. 동) were transferred to the administration of the administrations of neighboring regions ( gu , cor. 구), others stood out in separate regions (for example, the neighboring Chunangu district was formed on January 1, 1988 as a result of the allocation of 17 tons from Dongdaemungu).

Dongdaemungu currently consists of 26 tons . [2]

The center of the district is the territory adjacent to the Cheonianni metro station (box 청량리), which is famous for its many trading enterprises.

Education

There are 51 educational institutions in the district, including: the district education department, 3 universities ( Gyeonggi University, Hankuk University of Foreign Languages , Seoul University ), one vocational educational institution (box 전문대) and 46 schools. [one]

Attractions

On the territory of the district there are many ancient buildings, monuments and graves, such as:

- Altar of Sonnondan (cor. 선농단; cultural heritage of Seoul No. 15), where in ancient times people prayed for a plentiful harvest

- a monument built in 1452 to King Sejong the Great (cor. 세종대왕 신도비; cultural heritage of Seoul No. 42);

- Suphyo (cor. 수표) - a water horizon meter built in 1441 in the Chongachekhon stream (treasure No. 838)

- the tomb of Yonghewon (cor. 영휘원; historical site No. 361)

- the tombs of Kim Byung No (cor. 김병로 묘), Han Yong Una (cor. 한용운 묘), An Chan Hyo (cor. 안창호 묘), O Se Chkhan (cor. 오세창 묘) and others. [2]

Despite the relatively small area, there are 37 mini-parks in the area.
