Jugla ( Latvian. Jugla ) is a residential area in the eastern part of Riga . It covers the area between the lake Jugla and Mežciems , including the forests of Šmerlis (to the west of the residential area) and the Jugla forest (to the south-east of the residential area). Built predominantly high-rise buildings.

History
According to the document of 1226 about the borders of the Riga Patrimonial District, the Livs lived on the territory of the modern Jugla. For the use of land local residents had to pay the master's share. In the common use of the inhabitants were pastures, meadows, forests and places of fishing.
In the XVIII century, rich Riga residents began to build on the shores of Lake Kisezers small homesteads for recreation. Since 1868, every Sunday, the steamer delivered tourists from Riga to Jugla. [1] In the 19th century , industry developed rapidly in Jugla: the sugar factory was founded in 1812, the paper mill in Strazdumuyže in 1827, and the Gloveris chemical plant in 1899 [2] .

Attractions
On the shore of the forest lake Dambyapurva there was a fairy-tale town - a playground for children. Wooden sculptures, swings, a house similar to the “ Baba Yaga ” hut and other works by the master small wooden "little animals" based on picturesque branches, logs and roots collected in the nearby forest). On the house of the master hung funny pee monkey, so she made her action had to pull the ring in the fence. The mailbox was made from a deck depicting a wonderful man. Some sculptures had luminous eyes. In the 80s. The fabulous city was a popular memorable holiday destination for children. Many objects are damaged by wind and hooligans, and the master does not have the strength to follow the town. In 2013, only a couple of sculptures remained from this town (including a huge knight from a tree trunk, and a mailbox in the shape of a man), so that as a landmark, it will soon cease to exist.
