Paperweight Rick Ayotte
Antique paperweight with blotting paper
Paperweight ( fr. Presse-papiers , from presser - “press” and papier - “paper”):
- a heavy object made of bronze , marble , glass, etc., with which the papers lying on the table are pressed so that they do not crumble, fold or fly apart;
- one of several items in the writing set, which is a semicircular block with a handle on top and a sheet of blotting paper attached from below; serves to get wet written [1] .
Often, paperweight is used not for its intended purpose, but as a decorative element in the design of the table. At present, paperweights have also become a desirable object for collectors , as they often represent true works of art .
