“Nippon Budokan” ( 日本 武 道 館 ) or “Budokan” is a covered arena in the center of Tokyo ( Japan ).
The arena was built in 1964 for judo competitions at the XVIII Olympic Games . Its name translates as "martial arts hall."
Outside of Japan, Budokan is better known as the venue for large-scale rock concerts. The Beatles were the first foreign band to perform at Budokan in 1966. Their performance caused serious protests from Japanese nationalists who believed that a concert by a Western group would desecrate a hall intended exclusively for martial arts [1] . Later, many musicians and bands held concerts here, including Bob Dylan , Morning Musume , Cute , Deep Purple , AC / DC , Queen , ABBA , Eric Clapton , Led Zeppelin , Kiss , Judas Priest , Yngwie Malmsteen , Luna Sea , Malice Mizer , Guns N 'Roses , Cheryl Crow , The Pillows , Ozzy Osbourne , Skid Row , Dream Theater , Whitesnake , Mr. Big , Plastic Tree , The Gazette , Perfume , Miyavi , Dir en gray , An Cafe , Avril Lavigne , Nightmare , Mucc , Cyndi Lauper , One Ok Rock , Alice Nine , L'Arc-en-Ciel , BUCK-TICK , DBSK , AKB48 , UVERworld , ViViD , Scandal , Kalafina , BABYMETAL .
