GBU-28 - an American guided aircraft bomb weighing 2.3 tons, adopted in 1991 .

"GBU-28" is equipped with a laser guidance system . The GBU-28 hull is made from decommissioned artillery barrels , mainly an 8-inch (203mm) M110 howitzer. The bomb can penetrate more than 30 meters of soil or 6 meters of concrete .

  • This weapon was successfully used against an underground military complex near Baghdad (Iraq).
  • The Russian Arguments of the Week online citing “some data” claims that in August 2011 , during the assault on Tripoli by Libyan rebels, the US Air Force dropped a GBU-28 bomb on a bunker system in Gaddafi’s residence, Bab al-Aziziya .
