Miramas ( French Miramas ) is a city and commune on the Cote d'Azur in the south-east of France in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region , department of Bouches-du-Rhone , Istres , canton of Salon-de-Provence-2 [1] .

Geographical position
Miramas is located in the French Riviera , not far from Marseille . In 2006, the city administratively belonged to the canton of North Istria . The area of the city is 25.7 km². The population is 24,517 people ( 2006 ). The population density is 954.0 people / km².
The area of the commune is 25.74 km², the population is 25,064 people [2] (2012), the population density is 973.7 people / km².
History
Miramas village appeared in the V century BC. e. on a cliff above Lake Ethan de Berr . The first mention in a written source refers to the year 964 . Miramas became a modern city thanks to the Arles- Marseille railway laid here in 1848 . After the opening of nearby Marignan Airport, the significance of the city increased even more.
In 1986, in Miramas, BMW created a year-round test site for new models of cars and motorcycles.
