Source input format

Source Input Format ( SIF ) is an MPEG-1 standard format for storing and transmitting digital video.

  • 625/50 SIF format in PAL / SECAM has a resolution of 352 (or 360) × 288 pixels at a frequency of 25 frames per second .
  • 525 / 59.94 NTSC's SIF format has a resolution of 352 (or 360) × 240 pixels at a frequency of 29.97 frames per second.

In comparison with the CCIR_601 specification, which determines the corresponding parameters of digital coding of television signals, SIF can be characterized as being reduced by half in height and width, frequency and chromaticity.

SIF is also called a “ bitstream with limited parameters”. [one]

SIF is also used to broadcast mobile TV in DVB-H format.
