In 1858 he was in Khabarovsk , in 1859 in the Sofia Ulchsky District , in 1860 in Nikolaevsk as part of the 3rd company of the 4th Linear East Siberian Battalion under the command of Staff Captain I.F. On June 20, 1860, in order to organize a military post, Warrant Officer Komarov, along with 20 soldiers of the 3rd company of the 4th East Siberian Line Battalion, were disembarked from the Manjur military transport vehicle under the command of Lieutenant A. K. Chefner . Later, on November 1, 1860, he reported to his superiors that under his leadership there was built one barracks, a kitchen, an officer’s house from a spruce forest, covered with a dog. He also conveyed the plan of the constructed and planned buildings of the military post, called Vladivostok . In the winter of 1860, P. F. Churkin was sent to Komarov from the Griden corvette to help guard the post.
In the spring of 1861, Major N. N. Khitrovo arrived at the military post in Vladivostok on the Japanese transport. Between the ensign Komarov and Major Khitrovo a personal hostility arose against the background of the ensign's constant drunkenness. The major convicted Komarov of stealing one and a half buckets of state alcohol, Komarov undertook to reimburse the stolen alcohol at his own expense, but soon Major Khitrovo discovered the disappearance of the remaining alcohol. The conflict culminated, and the major decided to remove the ensign Komarov from command of the post, Komarov was announced about his resignation on June 20, 1861 (the anniversary of Komarov’s landing), it is believed that this date was not chosen by chance and the major wanted to humiliate ensign Komarov by this fact. In place of Komarov, Yevgeny Stepanovich Burachek was appointed; on June 22, 1861, he went ashore for medical reasons from the robber clipper. It should be noted that drunkenness and violations of ensign Komarov are known only from the reports of Major Khitrovo, and due to the conflict that possibly occurred between them, the data may not be entirely accurate.
Subsequently, Ensign Komarov with his detachment of builders was transferred to the Ussuri River for the construction of new border posts on the border with China .
In 1875, Nikolai Komarov retired with the rank of captain engineer.
