Dadukh ( Greek δᾳδοῦχος , "torchbearer") - torch porter, one of the four clerics in the Eleusinian mysteries [1] ; priest of the ancient Greek cult of Demeter (along with the hierophant ). This position was one of the highest and belonged to famous surnames [2] .
There were several of them attached to the temples [1] . But they publicly appeared only in the All-Finnish Games in Athens in order to lead the so-called “torch races” [1] . Carrying the torch during the Eleusinian Mysteries personified the search for Persephone .
