History

Deauville was built in 1859 specifically in order for the Parisian nobility to find a personal resort where you could take sea baths without suffering especially from the sun, and at the same time demonstrate your wealth without fear of seeming tactless. It was built by the Duke Charles de Morney , a distant relative of Napoleon Bonaparte , on the advice of his wife, as a girlhood of Princess Trubetskoy .

In 1913 [1] Coco Chanel opened her first boutique here and introduced the fashion for tanning . In the 1960s, Claude Lelouche made the romantic film β€œMan and Woman” .

Today, Deauville is a popular holiday destination.

Beach Cabin

Walking along the beach along the water's edge has always been secular entertainment in Deauville. Particularly noteworthy are the local beach cabs, designed in the style of Art Deco . Many of them are written with the names of famous movie stars - Rita Hayworth , Humphrey Bogart , Ingrid Bergman . But swimming in the sea, something taken for granted today, in 1913 was considered indecent. The unspoken rule was first violated by Coco Chanel . It was she and her friend, Boy Capel, who became Deauville's first bathers. Newspapers then wrote about their "heroic swim" in the front pages. Horse races, various festivals and exhibitions are regularly held in the city.

Festivals and Exhibitions

The most famous are the exhibition of contemporary art (May), the parade of convertibles and prestigious cars (May), jazz in Deauville (July), the American Film Festival (September), the rally of vintage cars Paris - Deauville (October), about which Paul Blanchard wrote a story, and Jean Delannoy made the film, and others.
