The 18th Russian Volleyball Championship among women's teams of the Super League was held from October 25, 2008 to May 16, 2009 . The championship title for the 3rd time in its history was won by Moscow Dynamo .

12 teams took part in the Super League. The competition was held in two stages - preliminary and final (playoffs and playout). First, the preliminary stage games were held in 2 rounds according to the roaming calendar, as a result of which 8 teams were determined that played 1-8 places in the playoff system, and 4 teams that played 9-12 places.
Quarter finals were held before two victories of one of the teams (system 1-1-1). The winners of the series reached the semifinals for 1-4 places, the losers - to the semifinals for 5-8 places.
Semifinal games were also held until two victories of one of the teams (system 1-1-1). We met in the finals: for 1-2 places - winners of the semi-finals for 1-4 places, for 3-4 places - losers in the semi-finals for 1-4 places, for 5-6 places - winners of semi-finals for 5-8 places. 7-8 places were not played. 7th place was taken by the team standing in the preliminary stage above.
All finals were held in series of up to three victories of one of the teams (2-2-1 system).
The teams that took 9-12 places at the preliminary stage played in two rounds. All the results of the preliminary stage were taken into account. Two teams that took 11th and 12th places in this tournament were eliminated in the Premier League “A”.
For the victory, the teams received 2 points, for the loss - 1, for the failure to appear - 0. If the points were equal for two or more teams, the arrangement was determined by the ratio of won and lost games in all matches. In the application for the match, 13 volleyball players were allowed to enter, including two liberos, at least one of whom must be a Russian woman and no older than 1984 year of birth. The number of foreign players in a team should be no more than two.
