History
Until 2015, the canton included the central quarters of the city of Caen and the commune of Epron . As a result of the 2015 reform [1], the composition of the canton was changed - the commune of Epron was transferred to the canton of Kan-3 .

Policy
In the 2017 presidential election, the canton residents cast 29.6% of the vote in the 1st round to Emmanuel Macron versus 23.1% from Jean-Luc Melanshon , 20.6% from Francois Fillon and 10.3% from Marine Le Pen ; in the 2nd round, Macron won the canton, receiving 82.1% of the vote. (2012 1st round: Francois Hollande - 35.2%, Nicolas Sarkozy - 25.0%, Marine Le Pen - 9.4%; 2nd round: Hollande - 60.7%).
Since 2015, the canton has been represented on the Council of the Department of Calvados by the former vice mayor of Caen, Gilles Déterville, and the former first vice mayor of Caen , Senator Corinne Féret (both Socialist Party ).
