Burrell was born in Grants Pass , Oregon . His mother is Sheri Rose (Haak as a girl ), a teacher; father - Gary Gerald Burrell, family psychologist. He has English and German roots. Barell grew up in the small town of Applegate, located in Oregon, near the border with California .

At school, Burrell was fond of football. In 1993, he graduated from the university with a bachelor 's degree in theater and art.

Burrell's first movie roles were roles in the films Evolution and Black Hawk in 2001. He also took part in theatrical productions, including the play Macbeth , staged on Broadway in 2000. Burrell had small roles in the series Law and Order and Law and Order: Special Corps , as well as the films Dawn of the Dead , Leaves of Grass , and Treasure of the Nation: Book of Secrets . He played the role of Doc Samson in the movie The Incredible Hulk , released in 2008.

Before getting a role in the American Family series, Barrell and one of the creators of the show, Christopher Lloyd, worked together on two sitcoms that did not succeed - Out of Practice was closed in May 2006 (22 episodes were aired from the shots only 14), and "Back to You" in 2008. In September 2009, the American Family series premiered on the screens, where Burrell played the role of Phil Dunphy, a real estate agent. Burrell and his wife Holly got married in 2000. The couple has two adopted children - daughters Francis (born in 2010) ^[2] and Greta (born in 2012) ^[3] . They live in Los Angeles , USA.
