At the opening ceremony, the flag of Belgium was carried by figure skater Kevin van der Perren , and at the closing ceremony by short trekist Peter Gisel .

Opening and Closing Ceremonies
As usual, Greece , the birthplace of the Olympic Games, opened the parade of nations, while Canada , the host country, closed it in [1] . Other countries appeared in alphabetical order. Belgium was the eleventh of the 82 delegations that appeared in the BC Place in Vancouver during the parade of nations at the opening ceremony, after Belarus and in front of Bermuda . This ceremony was dedicated to the Georgian athlete - sanitar Nodar Kumaritashvili , who died during a training run a few hours before the official opening ceremony of the Games [2] . The standard-bearer of Belgium was figure skater Kevin van der Perren [1] .
The closing ceremony also took place at the BC Place . Standard-bearers of all delegations formed a circle around the Olympic flame to extinguish the Olympic Games in Vancouver. The Belgian flag was carried by Peter Gisel , performing in short track [3] .
