Baipakov, Karl Moldahmetovich

Karl Moldakhmetovich Baipakov ( November 17, 1940 , Talgar - November 23, 2018 ) - Soviet and Kazakhstani scientist-archaeologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1994), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honored Worker of Science Republic of Kazakhstan (1998).

Biography

Born November 17, 1940 in the city of Talgar, Kazakh SSR . It comes from the clan of the Alban tribe [1] .

In 1963 he graduated from the History Department of Leningrad State University (Department of Archeology).

In 1966 he defended his thesis (theme - "Medieval cities and settlements of Semirechye (VII-XII centuries)", supervisor - K. A. Akishev ).

In 1986 he defended his doctoral dissertation (theme - "Medieval urban culture of South Kazakhstan and the Seven Rivers of the VI - early XII century. (Dynamics and main stages of development)"). From 1991 to 2010 - Director of the A. Kh. Margulan Institute of Archeology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan .

Since 2011 - Chairman of the Public Association "Kazakhstan Archaeological Society"

He was a major specialist in the field of medieval archeology of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. His full-scale studies of such monuments as Otrar , the fortress of Kuyryktobe , the necropolis of Kostobe, the Buddhist temple on the settlement of Koylyk and many others expanded and enriched the source base of the ancient history of Kazakhstan.
