Play Out
The play-out (or consolation tournament) was held in the 2011/2012 season . It involved teams that did not qualify for the playoffs. The peculiarity of this tournament was that all the points that the teams earned in the first stage of the championship, at the start of the play-out games, remained unchanged. The teams played two matches at home and away with the team from their conference. Matches between teams from different conferences were not held. The two teams that scored the least points dropped out of the MHL championship, passing to the championship . Their place is occupied by the champion and finalist of the second division of the MHL. The first and last clubs that dropped out of the championship following the playout were the Kirov-Chepetskaya Olimpia and the Togliatti Rook ( Oktan from Perm and Crystal from Berdsk took their place).
But during the tournament various complaints began to come to the MHL office. The clubs complained about the lack of interest in the tournament from the fans, as well as too high financial costs for moving from one city to another (in the regular championship and playoffs, all the expenses for moving were paid by the league itself, and in the playout the clubs had to cover them independently). As a result of all these statements, the league leadership decided to amend the competition rules accordingly, and the play-out was canceled. Nevertheless, the managing director of the MHL Dmitry Efimov does not exclude the possibility of returning the play-out if necessary [33] .
Youth Hockey League Championship
On June 1, 2011, at the next (annual) meeting of the members of the non-profit Partnership Higher Hockey League , it was decided that from the next season each club will be required to have a youth team in the MHL. On June 27, 2011, at a general meeting of the MHL clubs, it was decided to create “Group B” and hold a tournament among the teams of this division [34] .
The first draw of the championship started on September 20, 2011. 19 teams took part in it.
The winner of the series of playoffs of the championship is awarded the Cup of Regions .
In the 2017/2018 season, 15 teams will perform in the championship.
Starting from the 2016/2017 season, the Youth Hockey League Championship is held under the auspices of the FHR and is called the National Youth Hockey League .
