Biography
Jean Duphren was born in the family of the Jewish merchant Jacob Ephraim Duphren in Berlin . He studied at the gymnasium in Berlin until 1847, and then studied law in his hometown and in Breslau . In 1893, he died from an apoplexy stroke .
Pupil A. Andersen ; co-editor of Deutsche Schachzeitung . He led chess sections in a number of German newspapers. The compiler of the game set of the match P. Morphy is A. Andersen ( 1858 ), the London ( 1862 ) and the Paris ( 1867 ) tournaments, anthologies of chess games and problems. Of the numerous chess textbooks by Dufren, the most popular is the Small Guide to the Study of a Chess Game (Kleines Lehrbuch des Schachspiels, 1881 ), which has been published several times, including in Russian. He rarely participated in competitions; co-author of the "evergreen party" ("The unfading party ").
