First Generation

The Cavalier first went on sale in early 1981. A choice of 2 four-cylinder lower engine and 4 bodies: convertible , sedan , hatchback and station wagon . In 1983, Cavalier engines became injection engines. In 1985, the car underwent facelift , which slightly changed the appearance. Also in the engine range appeared the V6 engine , which is quite unusual for compact cars.

The Cavalier was largely identical to the Pontiac Sunbird . Prior to the official introduction of Pontiac in Mexico in 1992, Sunbird body panels were installed on the Cavalier sold there, unlike the US-made Cavalier. Since 1993 in Mexico, as in the USA, both brands have already been offered.

Second Generation

In 1988, the Cavalier was modernized with an updated design and modernized engines. Versions with convertible and hatchback bodies were discontinued and replaced on the coupe . Three years later, the model experienced restyling , and this time the changes affected the interior.

Third Generation

The release of the third generation began in 1995. The car received a new aerodynamic design in the style of the fourth generation Chevrolet Camaro . A choice of coupe, sedan and convertible versions were offered. Appearance was updated twice: in 2000 and 2003. In Japan, the third generation was sold under the Toyota Cavalier brand.
