Biography

He was born no later than 1229. For the first time he is mentioned in chronicles under 1238, as one of the princes who "escaped from Batyev’s sword."

Having become a ruler after the death of his father in a battle with the Mongol-Tatars on the River City in 1239, together with other princes, he went to the Horde “about his homeland”, that is, to approve his own will, by the will of the khan, in the Yaroslavl principality and Baty was released with honor. After that he went to the Horde two more times: in 1244, with his uncle Vladimir Konstantinovich Uglitsky , just as in 1239, “about his homeland”, and in 1245, with the Grand Duke Yaroslav Vsevolodovich , it is not known by what occasion.

From a marriage with Ksenia , of unknown origin, had a son Vasily, who is mentioned under the year of the death of his father and about which nothing more is known, and a daughter Anastasia, with whose hand the Yaroslavsky table passed to Prince Fyodor Rostislavich of Smolensk-Mozhaisk.

He died in 1249 in Vladimir , visiting the Grand Duke. At the funeral of his cousin were Alexander Nevsky , Rostov and Belozersky princes Boris and Gleb Vasilkovichi with their mother ; He was buried by Rostov Bishop Cyril in Yaroslavl in the Assumption Cathedral .

Honoring the Russian Orthodox Church

He was canonized, like his brother Konstantin , after gaining their relics in 1501 after a fire in the Assumption Cathedral of Yaroslavl, where they were buried. The relics became the main relic of the cathedral along with the Yaroslavl icon of the Virgin , brought according to legend by the brothers [1] . In 1744, by negligence, they extinguished the candles that were stacked in a box, which stood near the tomb with the relics, they burned down along with the crayfish and a wooden canopy . The surviving relics were collected and stored in a new silver crab in the same place.

They are revered by the Russian Church as holy noble princes, their memory is celebrated on July 3 (16) on the day of the death of Constantine and on May 23 ( June 5 ) together with the Cathedral of the Rostov-Yaroslavl Saints.
