Zaporizhzhya State Engineering Academy (ZGIA) is an industrial higher educational institution of Zaporizhia of the IV level of accreditation . In October 2018, she joined the Zaporizhzhya National University [1] .

Over the years the educational institution has existed, nearly 50 thousand specialists have been trained, among graduates - Heroes of Socialist Labor, Honored Metallurgists, People's Deputies, doctors and candidates of sciences [2] .

The academy includes: 3 educational buildings, 2 student 9-storey dormitories, a student art center, a medical center, a sanatorium on the island of Khortitsa, a recreation center "Montazhnik" on the Sea of ​​Azov [3] [4] .

Zaporizhzhya State Engineering Academy was founded in 1959 by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of the Ukrainian SSR as an evening faculty of the Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute . Since 1965 - a branch of DMETI, and since 1976 - the Zaporizhzhya Industrial Institute. The first rector was Potebnya Yuri Mikhailovich. Under his leadership, from a provincial university, ZII became one of the most famous and promising universities in the country. By the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 592 of 08/29/1994, the Zaporizhzhya State Engineering Academy was created on the basis of the Zaporizhzhya Industrial Institute [7] . In October 2018, she joined the Zaporizhzhya National University [1] .

The academy has the opportunity to obtain a second education both in parallel with the first and in the center of continuing education, as well as training in doctoral and postgraduate studies.

Technology

To ensure the educational process at the Academy, computer classes have been created, united by a high-speed network, equipped with high-level multimedia computers, which allow developing modern systems of economic information, systems for modeling, forecasting and research of micro- and macroeconomic processes. For the organization, leadership, coordination, control and implementation of work to ensure the smooth functioning and development of the software and hardware complex as a structural unit of the ZGIA, an Information and Computing Center operates.

As of 2014, the total student body of the Academy was 5397 people [10] . Students take part in various events: gatherings, ceremonial meetings, business meetings, concerts, holidays. Achievements of students in sports is one of the successful areas that is developing by the leadership of the academy. Pupils of the Academy became Olympic champions, silver medalists. Within the walls of the university, eleven masters of sports in fencing were trained. The Academy provides the opportunity to engage in basketball, athletics, volleyball; competitions are held in various sports.

Teachers

As of 2016, 778 people were working at the academy. The educational process and scientific activity was provided by 324 research and teaching staff, including 33 doctors of sciences and 189 candidates of sciences [11] .

Infrastructure

The Academy has 2 student dormitories with 1280 places, with a total area of ​​14850 sq.m. [4] A special contribution to the protection and strengthening of students' health is made by the sanatorium, the only one among the sanatoriums of Ukrainian universities, which is awarded the highest category and operates continuously. The treatment complex consists of doctors' offices, a handling room, an inhalation room, a physiotherapy gym, and a physiotherapy department.

Collaboration and International Relations

The Academy has a Department of International Relations. Since 1998, the robot has intensified its work in the field of international cooperation, establishing and maintaining contacts with regional domestic and international foundations and organizations that administer international academic and scientific exchange programs, as well as familiarizing students, graduate students and teachers with existing academic programs, grants, internships providing versatile assistance regarding their participation. Students, postgraduate students of ZGIA have the opportunity to participate in competitions for scholarships, internship places abroad; students also have the opportunity to study and travel to Western Europe and the USA during their summer holidays. Since March 2006, the Academy’s International Relations Department was reorganized by combining the International Relations Department and the Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens. The academy adheres to the principle: an engineer is required to own computer technology and be sure to know a foreign language. Putting this principle into practice, ZGIA created a Linguistic Center where students can improve their knowledge of English, German or French, master Italian and Spanish languages. Graduates who have been trained at the Linguistic Center are trained in the magistracy of educational institutions in Germany , Finland , and Ireland . The Academy cooperates with the National Committee of IAESTE, which organizes scientific and student exchanges and includes 54 universities of Ukraine, operates under the auspices of the UN and unites national committees from 65 countries of the world.

  • Voronkova Valentina Grigoryevna - Doctor of Philosophy, Professor. The author of more than 350 scientific papers, including monographs and textbooks.
  • Gavrish Vasily Stepanovich - candidate of technical sciences, professor. The author of more than 200 scientific papers. Honored Worker of Higher School of the Ukrainian SSR.
  • Glushko Vasily Trofimovich - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor. Author of over 600 publications and about 230 inventions.
  • Bastryga Ivan Mikhailovich - General Director of Zaporizhzhya Aluminum Plant. Honored Metallurgist of Ukraine. Full holder of the Order of Merit. He was awarded a diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Graduate of 1968.
  • Kuzhel, Alexandra Vladimirovna - graduate of 1983, People's Deputy of Ukraine.
  • Yuri Lagutin , Mikhail Ishchenko , Alexander Rezanov , Sergey Kushniryuk and Alexander Shipenko are Olympic champions.
  • Valentina Lutaeva - a member of the USSR handball team - the winner of the Olympic Games in Montreal and Moscow.
  • Tatyana Chernyavskaya - International class fencing master of sports, world champion (1986), silver medalist of the World Student Universiade in Japan.
  • Fedotov, Alexander Alexandrovich - Chairman of the Board of Zaporizhzhya Aluminum Plant

Awards and Reputation

  • According to the ranking of universities from employers, published in the journal "Money" in 2011, ZGIA entered the twenty best technical universities in Ukraine (15th place) [12] .
