History

In 1978, producer Bernt Möhrle, with the participation of arrangers Christian Kolonovits and Stefan Klinkhammer, known for working with such stars as Boney M. , Eruption , Supermax , Silver Convention and others, began creating a new rock disco project Chilly. According to the creators, this ambiguous sonorous name was born during the long “brainstorming”.

The quartet was formed according to the already popular 2x2 pattern: two white keys - the Germans Ute Weber (Ute Weber) and Werner Südhoff (Werner Südhoff), two black keys - Andrea Linz ( Oscar Pearson ). The group was actually a studio project, most of the musicians and arrangers of which worked for the producer of such stars as “ Boney M. ”, Gill , “ Eruption ” Frank Farian . The male vocals behind the scenes were performed by Brad Howell (who is better known as the backstage voice of Milli Vanilli ). He was the author of some Chilly songs.

In order not to take too much risk at the start, Burnt took as a basis the popular in 1965 but forgotten bit composition Graham Gouldman For Your Love , first performed by The Yardbirds . Having accelerated to the then classic 120 disco beats per minute and adding a bit of fatal stiffness, Merle and Boney M. arranger Stefan Klinkhammer create a win-win hit . The band's next album, Come to LA , again included hits from the 1960s: Sunshine of Your Love and Layla by Eric Clapton, and Friday on My Mind of Australian rock band The Easybeats .

The pilot single was recorded at the Europa Sound studio in Friedrichsdorf , but soon, unexpectedly for the creators, Polydor Records drew attention to the recording and offered to sign a collaboration contract with its West German branch. The first album by the title track title For Your Love is released .

In 1979 , due to controversy and disagreement, Burnt exchanges vocalist Andrea Linz for Cameroon Sofia Ejango .

The group prepares to conquer the United States and records the album Come To LA. The singles are the title line Come To LA, Get Up And Move and Springtime .

Released in 1980, Showbiz became the pinnacle of the band's career. The singles Come Let's Go and We are the pop kings in town are the most famous quartet songs in the former USSR that have become their hallmark. When recording the second composition, a lot of innovative sound engineering techniques were used, already then the young electronic music technology specialist Romanian Michel Cretu , known for his work in the studio team of Frank Farian, and later the creator of the Enigma project and the husband of the singer Sandra (also known for working in disco trio Arabesque ).

The next year, Werner Südhof left the band, in difficult conditions, Burnt releases the Johnny Loves Jenny disc collection, composed of hits from past years and not included in the albums of singles Johnny Loves Jenny and Brainstorming.

The next album was Secret Lies in 1982 . The best songs are Secret Lies and Rosi Rice, Simply A Love Song and Dimention 5 .

The band’s popularity is declining and Polydor Records in 1983 did not renew the contract with Burnt Merle and Chilly. The producer makes a final attempt to revive his former glory and contracts with Hansa Records , releasing the singles Goo, Goo, Eyes and Love On The Rebound . These singles, the 1984 solo single by Brad Howell, as well as unreleased studio recordings and a techno remix of For Your Love ’s most famous hit made up the Devil's Dance album, which has been distributed since 2000 by Burnt Mörle himself in the form of CD-R.

In the future, the fate of two members of the collective was tragic: the dark-skinned backing singer Sofia Eiango, who after Chilly worked at a hairdresser in Frankfurt, died in 1997, presumably from drugs and alcohol. She has two daughters left. Werner Südhof planned to return in 2005 with the new Chilly roster [1] , but this project was suspended in court. July 6, 2008, he hanged himself on his balcony; neighbors discovered his body only a few days later.

The soloist of the quartet Ute Weber, after a number of other musical projects, worked as a teacher of singing. Since 2006, she leads a secluded lifestyle.

Now the group Chilly performs in an updated composition, in which the dancer Oscar Pearson remained from the original formation.
