General Information
The tournament was first organized on the eve of the 1996 season, as part of the summer preparatory series for the US Open . The first two tournaments were held in the status of 75-thousand ITF , and the third received the WTA category - hitting the fourth largest group of tournaments. However, the next year, funding for the competition was not found and the tournament was closed.
In 2005, the National Federation resurrected the tournament, but already as part of the spring dirt series of WTA competitions. The tournament received the third category, but the organizers had additional funding to invite the leaders of the women's tennis at that time: Maria Sharapova , Elena Dementieva and Venus Williams played in Istanbul at various times. In this status, the tournament lasted four years, after which, due to the reorganization of the calendar, it was forced to move to its original place in the calendar - the second half of summer. The cover has also changed - instead of the ground, hard was laid.
The second life of the tournament ended in 2010, when the Turkish Federation agreed with the WTA on the arrival of the final association championship with Istanbul . With the expiration of the contract - in 2014 - the cup was renewed.
- Winner and finalists
Three relatively short periods of the history of the tournament gave a significant list of participants in the finals, where very few people managed to visit the title games more than once. In singles, only Elena Dementieva twice played in the finals, having won one common victory; while in pairs, the list of participants is equally large, and only Elina Svitolina and Sana Mirza managed to fight twice for the title, where the Ukrainian won two titles and the Indian lost both finals.
