Breed history
It was bred in France at the beginning of the 19th century by crossing eastern, mainly Arabian stallions with a local heavy western type harness. Percherons began to be imported into Russia in the 19th century.
Percherons were named after Perche, a region rich in luxurious pastures, located south of the estuaries of the Seine ; they represent the unclean blood Nori horse, containing a very volatile mixture of oriental blood; resort to such a cross made the need for strong and fast horses needed for postal pursuits and omnibuses . In the Perche region, unmethized heavy trucks as well as the mass of large and black and gray horses imported were bought all over France . Due to the same color, sumptuous food and monotonous way of raising all these horses are very similar to each other, but still the set of Percherons is a product of local conditions, and not deliberate, expedient breeding. This breed is just strong, tall, suitable for work in steps and moderate trot - in a word, something between a real heavy and an agricultural one. In France, they are distinguished by their height: large, medium and small Percheron. The most common is medium.
In 1941 in the USSR there was a State breeding horse breeding ground for the breed Persheron , it was located in Art. Talovaya , Voronezh region .
In Russia, horses of the Percheron breed are raised only in the Ulyanovsk region at the October stud farm. At the moment, the situation of the plant and all its inhabitants is deplorable: for debt, horses are sold to another plant.
Breed Usage
Used in the breeding of the Belarusian harness . Also of breeding importance are in America, where they have made a small local horse for obtaining carriage and agricultural.
