Mariela Perez Branger was born on Valentine's Day , February 14 , in 1946 .
When Mariele turned twenty-one, she represented Vargas at the Miss Venezuela Beauty Pageant . The victory went to her. Last year’s winner Magali Beatrice Aigi passed the crown to Mariele Pérez.
A month later, Mariela represented her country at the Miss Universe contest . The final took place on July 15, 1967 in Miami . All of Venezuela was rooting for Mariela Perez. But the victory did not go to her. The judges preferred the American Sylvia Hitchcock . The representative of Venezuela took second place.
But in her country, Mariela remained the queen for a year. And only on June 25, 1968 she transferred the crown to Peggy Kopp .
Further Life
In December 1970, Mariela Perez married Dominican businessman Jose Maria Vicini. In 1978, their first child, Jose Leopoldo , was born. And five years later he had a brother, Marco Antonio. The family moved to Santo Domingo .
Mariela sometimes comes to her homeland, where she remains the queen of Caracas society.
She was and remains an icon of beauty and style both in Venezuela and beyond.
In 2001, Mariela Perez was on the jury of the Miss Venezuela 2001 competition.
