Tablecloth
Tablecloth ( dia . Countertop ; other glory. * Supposedly two-part [1] : däska (table) and “tart” (wiped, clean), that is, literally “clean table”) - a special product (usually textile or knitted ), which sets the table . The tablecloth performs several functions:
- protects an expensive (from valuable breeds of a tree, marble ) table surface from pollution and damages;
- covers defects of a table surface;
- is an element of the decor of the room.
Tablecloths are made mainly of cotton, as well as linen [2] fabrics. Plush tablecloths were popular in the 19th century. In the second half of the 20th century, tablecloths became widespread. A variety of disposable paper tablecloths are currently available, and jacquard , teflon and satin tablecloths are also common.
Tablecloths are used not only as protection and cover for table defects, but also purely for aesthetic functions.
