Taipei zoo

Taipei Zoo ( Chinese 臺北市 立 動物園 ) is the largest and oldest zoo in Taiwan . In 1914, a private zoological garden was founded in the suburb of Taipei Yanshan. In 1915, the Japanese administration in Taiwan bought the zoo and transformed it into a state zoo. After World War II, the zoo was transferred to the government of the Republic of China . In 1986, the zoo was relocated to Mujzha (now part of Wenshan). Today, the zoo is a government agency whose main tasks are recreational, environmental and research activities. The zoo occupies 165 hectares , of which 90 hectares are open to the public. Taipei Zoo hosts over four million tourists annually.

Major Expositions

Taiwan Fauna Section

In the enclosures of this department, you can see animals living in Taiwan, such as the Himalayan bears , winged birds , pangolins and otters .

Division of Fauna of the Asian Equatorial Forests

Animals from South and Southeast Asia are represented in this department.

Desert Animal Branch

In this section you can see camels , gemsboks and various types of antelopes .

Department of African Fauna

The department occupies 6 hectares and it presents 45 species of African animals. In this section you can see giraffes , African elephants , rhinos , lions and leopards .

Department of Australian Fauna

In the Australian branch you can see cassowary , emu and kangaroo . Also, since 1999, there has been a koala pavilion - one of the most visited places in the zoo. In 2003, koalas gave birth to offspring. The cub was called Q-be.

Bird World

The branch occupies 4 hectares. In it you can see more than 130 species of birds.

Insect Pavilion

In the pavilion you can look at different types of insects and find out about their structure and origin. Also in the pavilion there is an exhibition of inventions that were invented as a result of observation of insects. Nearby is a greenhouse where you can see the butterflies.

Penguin Pavilion

There are two kinds of penguins in the taipei zoo: royal and spectacled . In 2001, a royal penguin was born at the zoo.

Panda Pavilion

There are two pandas in the taipei zoo. Their names are Tuan-Tuan and Yuan-Yuan. A three-story pavilion with three sections was built for them. In summer, the temperature is maintained at 18-22 ° C, and in winter, natural ventilation is used. Humidity in the pavilion is 60-70%. On the third floor of the pavilion is an international conference room.

In Chinese, the word "tuanyuan" means "family reunion." The transfer of the two pandas to the Taipei Zoo was a step towards improving relations between China and Taiwan.

Directions

The zoo is located at 30 Xingguang Street, Wenshan District, Taipei . Taipei Zoo can be reached by metro ( Taipei Zoo station ) and by bus (routes 236, 237, 282, 294, 295, 611, B3, B6, B11, G1, S12). For visitors using private vehicles, there are travel instructions on the official website.

Opening hours

The zoo is open daily from 9:00 to 17:00. Entrance to the zoo stops at 16:00. The zoo does not work during the Chinese New Year .

Tickets

Entrance ticket costs 60 new Taiwan dollars . Groups from 30 people receive a thirty percent discount.

Children from 6 to 12 years old, schoolchildren, military, police and low-income citizens can purchase a ticket for 30 new Taiwan dollars when providing the relevant documents.

Free to the zoo can visit children under 6 years of age, elderly people, people with disabilities, as well as school excursion groups and guides (if relevant documents are provided).

Services

At the entrance to the zoo, visitors can get free brochures about the zoo.

Near the entrance to the zoo is an information center for tourists. In the information center you can make an announcement, rent a stroller or wheelchair, get first aid.

The zoo has many small cafes, souvenir shops and public toilets. All of them are marked on the map, which is provided for free.

Limitations

The following is prohibited at the zoo:
