Biography

Fedor Sverdlov was born in 1921 in Kharkov, in a working class family. Jew. He graduated from the artillery special school, Leningrad Artillery School .

At the beginning of World War II he was sent to the front as a battery commander with the rank of senior lieutenant. Subsequently, he became commander of a rifle company, a rifle battalion. In the summer of 1942 he was appointed an officer in the operational department of the headquarters of the 16th Army .

After the war he graduated with honors from the Frunze Military Academy . In 1952 he defended the dissertation of a candidate of military sciences and started working at the academy, where he worked until 1984 . In 1979 he defended his dissertation as a doctor of historical sciences . Since 1980 - professor of the department of operational art.

In 1953 he became a colonel.

Since 1992 - Member of the Board of the Holocaust Center.

Fedor Sverdlov is the author of 20 books and more than 300 articles on the theory, tactics and history of military art. A significant part of his works is devoted to the theme of Jewish military heroism. He is one of the authors of the two-volume publication “Heroes of the Soviet Union”.
