History

Travis became famous for their many hits: “Driftwood”, “Sing”, “Turn”, “Side”, “Why Does It Always Rain on Me?” And others. The band gained special popularity on both sides of the Atlantic after a live performance of a cover version of Britney Spears 's single “Hit Me Baby (One More Time)” at the Glastonbury festival . This track was released as a biside for the single “Turn”. In fact, for Travis this is a very typical situation. Almost every single of their musicians publish two discs, each of which differs from the other set of bisides. It is not surprising that the total number of tracks included in the albums is inferior to the total number of band bays.

Oddly enough, but even when Travis were at the peak of popularity, very few fans had an idea about the members of the team. Many sincerely believed that Travis was simply the name of the vocalist. This paradoxical situation fully reflects the opinion of musicians that their music is much more important than their own personalities. This is where the name of the third Scots album, The Invisible Band, came from.

In 2002, the group almost broke up. Drummer Neil Primrose received a serious spinal injury in a water accident. However, since then Neil has managed to fully recover.

On July 2, 2005, Travis performed in London as part of the Live 8 series. On July 6th, the musicians took part in the big concert Edinburgh 50,000 The Final Push , which closed the action Long Walk To Justice .

May 7, 2007 released the fifth album of the group - The Boy With No Name . Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich , who also recorded The Man Who and The Invisible Band , as well as Brian Eno and Mike Hedges, was involved in producing the album. At the group’s official forum in the 'Studio Diaries' section, bassist Dougie Payne shared other details regarding the album. In particular, he said that the band will record a new track together with Scottish singer KT Tunstall : “We met Tunstall during a club performance in Liverpool in support of a collection of singles. We consider it a great luck the opportunity to work with her. She has an incredible voice. ” Payne also said that the group had already accumulated so much material that they could, if they wanted to, release a double album: “We have recorded about 20 songs. That’s enough even for two albums. ”

In early 2008, the group unexpectedly announced on the official website that a new album was ready for release. The lead singer Fran Healy gave him the name Ode To J. Smith . The name means that the album is directed to each listener, since J. Smith is a collective image of a person (it’s the same as Ivan Petrov in Russia). The album is distinguished by a rigid manner of performance, a large number of original vocal and instrumental invariants. The European release includes 11 songs. The official release in the UK took place on September 29, 2008 .

The end of the tour in support of Ode To J. Smith marked a long break in the group's studio activities, which lasted five years. In one interview, bassist Dougie Payne admitted that the group “needed to refrain from studio work for as long as possible in order to finally feel the same strong desire to do creative work that was felt at the very beginning of our career.” During this period, Travis gathered in short tours of the festivals (noting, among other things, performing at the Maxidrom festival in Moscow in 2011), and also recorded several new songs, including in collaboration with the Keane group. In addition, Fran Healy in 2010, managed to release his first solo album Wreckorder.

On August 19, 2013, Travis released the record Where You Stand . The album was recorded in Norway at Ocean Sound Recordings, and was recorded at Hansa Studios in Berlin. The producer of the album was a Grammy nominee, Swede Michael Ilbert.

April 29, 2016 released the eighth studio album Travis - Everything At Once, which was recorded in Berlin since January 2015.
