Braginsky district ( Belorussian. Braginsky raion ) is an administrative unit in the south of the Gomel region . The administrative center is the town of Bragin . The district has 80 settlements for 2009 [5] .

Geography
The area of the district is 1950 km² (another estimate is 1962 km²). In the south it borders with the Ivankovsky district of the Kiev region , in the east - with the Repkinsky district of the Chernihiv region of Ukraine , in the north - with the Loevsky , in the west - with the Khoiniki districts.
The main rivers are the Dnieper and Braginka with a tributary of Nesvich .
After the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the entire territory of the Bragin district was exposed to radioactive contamination , while about 120,000 ha (more than 60% of the territory) received a density of contamination of 137 Cs over 5 Ku / km². Due to radiation contamination as a result of the Chernobyl disaster, 4,890 families (12,526 residents) were relocated to clean places in 1986-1997. In total, 5 state farms and 5 collective farms fell into the evacuation zone [6] .
History
The district was formed on September 1, 1924 as part of the Rechitsa district of the Gomel province of the RSFSR . Since December 1926 - as part of the Rechitsa District of the BSSR . June 9, 1927 - included in the Gomel District , where he remained until July 1930. January 15, 1938 entered the Polessk region of the Belorussian SSR, and January 8, 1954 - in the Gomel region (in the southeast of the region). On December 25, 1962, the town of Komarin and 8 village councils of the abolished Komarinsky district were added to the district .
Demographics
The population of the district in 1999 was 17.4 thousand people, as of January 1, 2009 - 15.5 thousand people. As of January 1, 2016, it was reduced to 12,128 people, including 5502 people living in urban conditions - 3,698 people in the district center and 1804 in the town of Komarin .
As of January 1, 2018, 21.9% of the population of the district were younger than working age, 51.1% - of working age, 27% - of older than working age. The average indicators in the Gomel region are 18.3%, 56.6% and 25.1%, respectively [7] .
The birth rate in the district in 2017 was 13.5 per 1000 people, the mortality rate was 16.6. In total, in 2017, 161 were born in the district and 197 people died. The average fertility and mortality rates in the Gomel region are 11.3 and 13, respectively, in the Republic of Belarus - 10.8 and 12.6, respectively [8] [9] . The migration balance until 2017 was negative, but in 2017, 11 people left the district less than they arrived [10] .
In 2017, 86 marriages (7.2 per 1000 people) and 28 divorces (2.4 per 1000 people) were concluded in the district. The average indicators in the Gomel region are 6.9 marriages and 3.2 divorces per 1000 people, in the Republic of Belarus - 7 and 3.4, respectively [11] .

Economics
On the territory of the district there are: a leshoz, regional agricultural chemistry and agroindustry, a veterinary clinic, a bakery, a pharmacy, a music school, a historical museum with an art gallery, libraries, the House of Culture, a hospital, a post office, and a hydrometeorological station. Radio broadcasting is in progress, the Mayak Polesie newspaper is published. Near the village there are deposits of iron ore, clay and loam. Peat reserves are estimated at 35.5 million tons.
The urban village Komarin, the center of the village council, is located 52 km from Bragin on the river. Dnieper. The population is 1813 people. Known since the XV century. like a village in Rechitsa district. At present, the center of the Komarinsky state farm, a construction materials factory, a leshoz, a Selkhoztehniki department are operating in the village, there are cultural centers, schoolchildren, libraries, a hospital, and a post office. Komarin - the birthplace of the artist, art critic Viktor Fedorovich Shmatov.
About 30% of the territory is forest. A part of the region’s territory is occupied by the Polessky Radiation and Ecological Reserve . The main industrial enterprises in Bragin and Komarin. 21 collective farms, 7 state farms, 18 comprehensive schools, 26 libraries, 47 sports facilities, 82 shops and 19 catering establishments.
Proceeds from the sale of products, goods, works, services for 2017 amounted to 96.1 million rubles (about $ 48 million), including 49.4 million rubles (more than half) was from agriculture , forestry and fisheries, 27.2 million for industry , 1.4 million for construction, 18.2 million for trade and repair [17] .
Agriculture
The quality of arable land is 46 points, forage land - 30 points, all farmland - 38 points. Under farmland, about 57% of the territory.
In 2017, 16 755 ha of arable land was sown under agricultural organizations for grain and leguminous crops, and 24 292 ha under fodder crops [18] . In 2016, 54.2 thousand tons of grain and legumes were harvested, in 2017 - 52.2 thousand tons (yield - 33.6 and 31.1 kg / ha). According to the average grain yield, the Bragin district takes 4-5 places in the Gomel region. The average grain yield in the Gomel region in 2016-2017 was 30.1 and 28 kg / ha, in the Republic of Belarus - 31.6 and 33.3 kg / ha [19] .
As of January 1, 2018, the agricultural organizations of the district (excluding personal households and farmers) contained 27.6 thousand heads of cattle, including 8.5 thousand cows [20] . In 2017, 2.2 thousand tons of meat in live weight and 27.9 thousand tons of milk were produced with an average milk yield of 4408 kg (the average milk yield per cow in agricultural organizations of the Gomel region was 4947 kg in 2017) [21] .
Energy
A solar power plant Solar II with a capacity of 22.3 MW was built in the Bragin district in the village of Soboli [22] [23] .
Transport
By road, the district is connected with Khoiniki , Rechitsa , Loev , Chernihiv , and the Chernihiv - Ovruch railway line runs through the district.
Education
In 2017, there were 12 pre-school education institutions in the district (including kindergarten-school complexes) with 0.5 thousand children. In the academic year 2017/2018, there were 13 institutions of general secondary education in which 1.7 thousand students studied. The educational process in schools was provided by 281 teachers, on average 5.9 students per teacher [24] .
Culture
In the district center is the Bragin Historical Museum with an art gallery. The museum has collected 2.4 thousand museum items of the main fund. In 2016, the museum was visited by 5 thousand people [25] .
Health
In 2017, there were 34 medical practitioners at the institutions of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus (28.6 in terms of 10 thousand people; the average for the Gomel region is 39.3, for the Republic of Belarus - 40.5) and 150 paramedical workers. The number of hospital beds in the medical institutions of the region is 104 (in terms of 10 thousand people - 87.5; the average for the Gomel region is 86.4, for the Republic of Belarus - 80.2) [26] .
Attractions
In the district there is a monument of landscape art - Telman Park near the village of Telman . In the park, archaeologists found an ancient settlement.
