Richard Martin Bails ( English Richard Martin Bales ; June 21, 1946 , London - December 17, 2007 , Belfast ) - British literary scholar, expert in French literature and, mainly, on the work of Marcel Proust .
He graduated from the University of Exeter , then for a year interned at the University of Kansas , studying the life and work of the composer Reinaldo Ana . Returning to the UK, he defended his thesis at the Royal College on medieval allusions and influences in Proust’s work, which formed the basis of his first monograph Proust and the Middle Ages ( Eng. Proust and the Middle Ages ; 1975 ). Subsequently, he published the monograph “Briqueback: A Prototype of“ Under the Blossom of Girls in Bloom ”, published by Oxford University ( Eng. Bricquebec: Prototype d 'A L'Ombre Des Jeunes Filles En Fleurs ; 1989 ), was the editor-compiler of the Cambridge Guide to Proust ( The Cambridge Companion to Proust ; 2001 ). Since 1973 , he taught at the University of Belfast, since 1996 Professor.
